Phonics

Below are three videos for your child to access when they are practising the speed sounds. The videos are purposely separated into three in order to support your child at the appropriate level. If you are unsure as to which video to use, please contact me via the learning log or email.

  • MTYT Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child needs to hear the sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • MTYT Set 1 Special friends: Use this video if your child needs to hear the special friends (digraphs) sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child is confident practising the sounds independently without support

today's fun challenge

Rainbow Ice

Learning Objective

To further develop skills for:

  • Problem solving

  • Goal setting

  • Planning

  • To develop a sense of inquiry and make discoveries.

You will need:

  • 2 big blocks of ice (a simple plastic lunch box container of any shape filled with water and left overnight in the freezer)

  • Food colouring

  • Water paint

Learning Activity

  • Take out a few small bowls. Add half a tablespoon of salt to each and a few drops of food colouring then mix. Sprinkle a rainbow on your block of ice

  • Watch for a few minutes as the salt will eat away at the ice to produce craters everywhere it touches and the colour from the salt will go into these craters

Extension:

  • Salt your ice block with plain salt

  • Paint your ice block with the water paint

Painting the ice after the salt has been added can be a more visual experience versus the colour salt.
