Good morning Giraffe Class

It's Wednesday today and one of my favourite days as it's time for our literacy activity. I know you all love reading books and making up stories so you are really going to enjoy this activity.

Let’s start today……

Being thankful

Gerald Giraffe is thankful that he can be creative

What are you thankful for?

Learning Objective: To retell a story

You will need:

The above link will take you to a Google Slides presentation of the story; “The Little Red Hen”

Read this with your child in order to help you support them to retell the story.

Learning activity:

  • Read the story with your child. Use the pictures in the book to support your child retelling the story and ask them questions such as;

    • Who is the story about?

    • Why do you think the animals didn’t want to help the Little Red Hen?

    • What did the hen do first?

    • What was the hen making?

    • What happened in the end?

Other ideas:

  • Use your toys to retell the story or make a mask for some of the animals and act out the story

  • Practice the repeated refrains such as; “Not I, said the…..”

  • Can you change the story beginning and / or ending, how could the animals be helpful and what would have happened?

some extra fun ;-)

Copy Dance

This game can be played with two or more participants, and it’s as simple as it sounds. One person dances while the others copy their moves. Children love being the leaders, and imitation is, after all, the highest form of flattery. So put on some dancing tunes and show off those moves!

Great LEARNING today giraffes!

I loved learning about the “y’ sound today and I had fun forming the letter. The yak looks amazing with those big horns and also a little cute. I hope you had fun today learning with me. Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow.
