mark making

Do the morning register - look at what day it is and and practise writing your name. Can you write your last name? Can you write your age?

Choose your favourite words - can you blend the sounds and form the letters.

You can either ask mum or dad to print a copy for you to write on, or you can make your own register to use at home.

Phonics

Below are three videos for your child to access when they are practising the speed sounds. The videos are purposely separated into three in order to support your child at the appropriate level. If you are unsure as to which video to use, please contact me via the learning log or email.

  • MTYT Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child needs to hear the sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • MTYT Set 1 Special friends: Use this video if your child needs to hear the special friends (digraphs) sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child is confident practising the sounds independently without support

Once you have completed the appropriate speed sound video, please continue with the daily phonics learning video below.

fine motor skills

Light and Shadows

Learning Objective :

To develop and strengthen fine motor skills, dexterity, hand to eye coordination and concentration

What you will need:

Fluorescent plastic cups (reuseable) in a variety of colours

What to do:

  • Line up the cups on a table near a window so that the colour shadows touch the cups in front of them

  • carefully build up the cups to make shapes / tower

  • Support your child to identify the shadows the light is making

  • Talk about how the light moves to make the shadow

  • Move the cups together to see what would happen when the shadows overlapped.

  • Depending on the light, it is sometimes possible to mix the colours and create a big WOW moment!

other ACTIVITIES...

Some everyday activities you can do with your child to help develop fine motor and pre-writing skills...

Work with musical instruments – coordinating both hands to play the instrument, putting fingers in the right places on strings, over holes, or on keys.

Can you make your own instruments?

great learning today giraffes!
