Phonics

Below are three videos for your child to access when they are practising the speed sounds. The videos are purposely separated into three in order to support your child at the appropriate level. If you are unsure as to which video to use, please contact me via the learning log or email.

  • MTYT Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child needs to hear the sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • MTYT Set 1 Special friends: Use this video if your child needs to hear the special friends (digraphs) sounds first and then repeat it after me

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds: Use this video if your child is confident practising the sounds independently without support

today's fun challenge

SPROUT HOUSE

Learning Objective

To further develop skills for:

  • Problem solving

  • Goal setting

  • Planning

  • To develop a sense of inquiry and make discoveries.

You will need:

  • Scissors

  • Toothpicks

  • Strong glue (or glue gun)

  • Plate

  • Seeds (wheat berries, chia or alfalfa seeds sprout quicckly)

Learning Activity

  • Use one sponge as the base for your house

  • Cut two sponges in half to form 4 walls

  • Cut the last sponge in half and use to make the roof for the house

  • To hold up the walls, insert two toothpicks in the bottom and sides of each wall with about 1/2 of the toothpick sticking out

  • Once the house is built, cover it with seeds (You can add a bit of water to the seeds to make them stick easier)

  • Pour water in the plate and allow the sponge to absorb the water to moisten the seeds

  • For the roof, carefully spray the seeds several times a day with a misting bottle

  • Within a few days, the seeds should start to sprout
