Good morning Giraffe Class,

Well done for hanging in there! I hope you are ready for a new fun day of learning :-)

Let’s start today……

Thank You!

Thank you for all the lovely photos you have shared in our album, it's great to see that you are keeping up with all the activities and having fun! Thank you to all the Mums and Dads for the support you are giving your child, you are all doing a great job!

  • What day is it today?

  • Can you write some of the letters in your name?

  • What is the name of today’s shape?

  • What colour is the numicon?

  • Can you show someone 6 fingers?

  • What number comes after 6?

  • What number comes before 6?

  • Can find 6 toys in your room?

  • Can you find something in your house to make today's number?

Phonics - d

You will need:

  • Read Write Inc Set 1 sound cards (refer to the end of the planning for printable resources if needed)

  • Letter Sound writing sheets (refer to the end of the planning for printable resources if needed)

  • Other sensory resources to practice writing the letters such as shaving foam, sand in a baking tray, flour in a baking tray

Learning activity:

Say the Sound

  • Use the sound cards to go over the sounds with your child. Help your child by saying the sound (not the alphabet name) if he or she is unsure of the sound. (Please follow the resource link below to print the cards)

  • Bounce d-d-d-d as you keep your tongue gently behind your teeth. Ask your child to repeat the sound

  • Hold up the Picture Sound Card. Bounce the sound at the start as you say the name of each picture and ask your child to repeat: d-d-d-dog, d-d-d-dinosaur, d-d-d-doll, d-d-d-duck

Read the Sound:

  • Write d on a board or paper. Run your finger round d, saying d-d-d-d. Say d just as you reach the end of d. Ask your child to repeat

Review the Sounds:

  • Hide the new sound in the pack of sounds that you have printed from the link below. Ask your child to read the sounds and spot the new sound (no bouncing or stretching). Increase the speed as children gain confidence

Write the Letter:

  • Pretend to write the letter d in the air with your finger, saying: Round his bottom, up his tall neck, down to his feet. Ask your child to copy

  • Repeat the phrase, writing d on the board

  • Ask your child to say the phrase as he or she writes d on paper sitting at a table

Fred Talk:

  • Say each word in the box below in Fred Talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEzfpod5w_Q). Ask your child to repeat. (Pause to allow your child to ‘Jump-in’ and say the whole word – if he or she can). For each word, ask your child to repeat the Fred Talk and the whole word.

  • d-a-d dad

  • d-i-d did

  • d-o-ii doll

  • d-i-g dig

Speed Write:

  • Ask your child to write the letter on the floor with his or her finger whilst repeating the writing rhyme:

d - round his bottom, up his tall neck, down to his feet

Other ideas:

  • Practise writing the letters on a baking tray filled with sand, flour or even shaving foam.

  • Use the large letters to trace the individual letters (printable resources)

  • Use the letter formation sheets to practise the letters.

Fine Motor Skills

Learning Objective: To be able to wrap strings around a round object.

You will need:

Bottle and strings.

If you don’t have strings use shoe laces, hair ties, waist band, mens tie etc.

Learning activity:

Ask your child to use his or her fine motor skills to wrap strings etc. around an empty water / milk bottle. This is to practise fine motor skills so continue for as long as your child is interested.

Other ideas:

Create a pom pom using cardboard and string (or other available resources).

Have a lovely weekend Giraffes, see you all next week.
