After being eliminated from the U13 and U19 category, the MCS Phoenix U17 team was the only one remaining to compete for the eliminations for the basketball games and was against the St. Peter Apostle School (SPAS) and St. Anthony School (SAS), which was held at the St. Francis Gymnasium in St. Anthony School, Singalong, Manila March 14, 2024.

Before their matches, their coach, Mr. Renzo Fabon, huddled the team to discuss their strategy - having a power line, a team consisting of big players, and a quick line, a team consisting of small players. The players then started their warm-up and had a group prayer before their game.

In their first game against SPAS, the MCS Phoenix had a hard time due to their opponent’s height advantage. With SPAS dominating each quarter of the match, they were ahead with a big lead; however, before the 4th quarter, Mr. Fabon told them to “go all-out”. During the 4th quarter, they had a 5-point streak. The game ended with MCS scoring 31 points and SPAS scoring 84 points.

During their lunch break, Mr. Fabon told them that given the height of their opponents, they should play with their hands and improve their defense. Furthermore, he also told the players to focus on the game itself and to go all-out on their next game, as they did during the 4th quarter of their match against SPAS.

The last game was against SAS. Unlike their last match, the game between the MCS Phoenix and SAS was more of a close fight, with MCS scoring 60 points and SAS with 73 points.

Because of their consecutive losses, the MCS Phoenix U17 team was eliminated from the under 17 years old category.

After their games, Mr. Fabon said that it is still a big opportunity for the team to compete as the MCS Phoenix has started again, and even though the players are skilled, they still have room for improvement.
