The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Challenge Cup, formerly known as the PNVF Champions League, is organized by the PNVF, which recently earned full recognition from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) as the national sports association for volleyball in the Philippines.
The PNVF Challenge Cup started with a bang, featuring 37 teams including the impressive Volida Volleyball Club. Among the notable additions to this exciting tournament are the former volleyball standouts from Malate Catholic School (MCS), Kurt Lagos and Shawn Daniel Reyes.
The tournament has served as a battleground for 20 men's teams and 17 women's teams, taking place at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The opening of this highly anticipated event took place last November 7, 2023, at the Philippines Sports Commission Complex, officially marking the start of the tournament. The first game was scheduled last, November 9, was filled with an action-packed extravaganza for volleyball enthusiasts.
Among the men's division, the Volida Volleyball Club, with Kurt Lagos and Shawn Daniel Reyes, geared up to showcase their skills and have proved themselves as tough competition to other formidable teams. Some of the teams such as Cignal, Philippine Navy, and the Philippine Air Force. Along with these are school teams such as Arellano University, University of the East, Jose Rizal University, and many more will be participating.
Kurt Lagos and Shawn Daniel Reyes are known to have a rich history in the sport, having been part of the MCS varsity team that have secured numerous victories in the RCAMES Sports Meet and have claimed the 1st Runner Up spot in the United Volleyball League (UVL). Their excellence on the court has also led them to represent RCAMES during the Manila Meet.
Lagos and Reyes found their way into the Volida Volleyball Club through the recommendations of friends, adding their remarkable talents to an already significantly impressive roster. They've prepared diligently for the tournament, demonstrating discipline and engaging in intense training sessions to ensure they take with them their best performance to the court. MCS’ own Mr. John Osmeña, a coach and trainer of the Malate Volleyball team has coached the Volida Volleyball Club as they embark on this exciting journey.
The PNVF Challenge Cup promises an exciting volleyball spectacle, with Volida Volleyball Club, featuring former Malateans, Kurt Lagos and Shawn Daniel Reyes, they are all set to make a mark and show the world their prowess on the court.
