One of the most popular films to watch right now by families and individuals alike is the musical animated film “Encanto” produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Set in a mythical place in the tall mountains of Columbia, the film revolves around the multi-generational family of the Madrigals. Each family member possesses a certain magical gift, except for the main character, Mirabel. Their gifts were all bestowed on them through the power of a supposedly undying candle imbued with magic. Throughout the film, viewers will get to know the family's story, filled with moments of laughter, delight, and sadness, while also enjoying the film's musical nature.

Since its theatrical release on November 24, 2021, the film has grown in popularity, getting more and more viewers each week. Not only that, the movie has also accumulated over $220 million worldwide, according to various sources, making it the highest-grossing animated film of 2021. Additionally, it has received numerous film distinctions, such as the "Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film," as well as recognition for the musical film's soundtrack, especially the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” The movie has been receiving positive acclaim and ratings from viewers and critics alike. It is undoubtedly a hit and a must-see film because of its captivating storyline, smooth animation, and catchy music.

Although it is typical for Disney films to have a narrative revolving around the love for family, what makes Encanto unique is how it was able to incorporate the culture surrounding family in such a musical and magical yet realistic way. The audience witnessed how certain relationships within the family were distant in the beginning but grew as the story progressed. Furthermore, it is not just about the importance of family that is recognized in the film but also about loving and understanding one’s own self and worth. Despite not having any magical gifts like her loved ones, the main character, Mirabel, accepted herself wholeheartedly, overcame the burden of living up to family expectations, and still cared for her fantastical family. She was determined to save her family’s home after learning that it was in danger of falling apart, which is also integral to the film's plot. Sure, there were moments where she wished that she had magical powers, such as when she sang the song “Waiting on a Miracle.” Still, she realized that she is as important and special as the other members of the family. Encanto teaches us that each of us is unique in our own ways, especially in a family. We should learn how to accept our relatives’ perfections, skills, differences, and flaws as well as our own. By doing that, we will learn unconditional love for ourselves and for those whom we love.

Moreover, the film is also very engaging to Filipinos since it represents Columbian culture, which is somehow similar to the Filipino tradition. We Filipinos are known for being kind-hearted people who put the pride of our families above anything else. Thus, being similar to the Columbian culture that was presented in the film, it is no wonder why Encanto has been trending, especially to the Filipino audience.

For those who still have not watched the film, I recommend that you watch it now. Regardless of whether you are a child, a teen, or an adult, Encanto is an animated movie that will entertain all ages. It contains such meaningful lessons about oneself and family that should not be neglected and forgotten. The film will surely not disappoint.

Overall, I will rate Encanto five out of five stars. It has truly been a success and is probably one of the best animated films Disney has produced.
