On February 13, 2024, MCS commenced the ritual of burning dried palm fronds. This is for preparation for the upcoming Ash Wednesday Mass the following day. Mr. Kenjie Eneran facilitated the ritual on campus, in the quadrangle.

Mr. Kenjie Eneran began his gospel reflection by stating that it is the last day of the first part of the ordinary season. He reminded the students that the coming days are days of prayer, fasting, and abstinence.

“Ito’y magandang paalala sa atin mga minamahal na mag-aaral, na sa kabila ng kasariwaan, sa kabila ng kalakasan, lahat tayo’y malalanta, lahat tayo’y kukupas, lahat tayo matutuyo, at ang katotohanan na, lahat tayo’y mamamatay.”

(It’s a good reminder to us, dear students, that despite the freshness, despite the strength, we will all wither, we will all fade, we will all dry up, and the truth is that we will all die.)

He ended the reflection by reminding the students to use this season as a time to reflect. They should celebrate their faith as they await the triumphant victory of Christ over death.

Altar servers assisted Mr. Kenjie Eneran in lighting the fire. Students with palm fronds threw them into the fire. After the palm turned into ashes, Altar Servers extinguished the fire using holy water.

Students continued the morning with their flag ceremony and returned to their classrooms afterward.
