Thursday, March 14, 2024—MCS Phoenix Volleyball girls’ and boys’ teams fought in the RCAMES Clusters 2 & 8 Sports Meet 2024 at the MCS Jaime Cardinal Sin Gymnasium where the girls’ U19 team claimed victory.

Gathering a 1-1 standing, winning against St. Anthony School and losing against Sta. Clara Parish School during the elimination round last Wednesday, the MCS team qualified for the championship match.

In the first game for the battle between the U17 category, both for men's and women’s volleyball, the MCS Phoenix both lost to SCPS. During the first set, the boys scored 18, whilst the girls scored 23.  For the second and third sets, the boys scored 16 and 21, while the girls scored 17 and 15. SCPS won overall, taking over the Championship for the U17 category.

Following the games, is the U19 category. In the first two sets, the women’s volleyball team for MCS was getting lucky, scoring against close calls. While the MCS men’s team already lost the first three, the MCS women’s team was still competing against SCPS in the third set. MCS scored 26 points, while their opponents scored 28.

The fourth set was much more intense. It was a very long and close match, but successfully, due to an outside serve, MCS Phoenix won 25 against 23.

Due to uncontrollable emotions, most of the volleyball members even ended up crying once they had won. Truly, it was an emotional moment for all.

The MCS Phoenix thanked the opponents, officials, and coaches. Nearing the end, their Coaches, Mr. Marc Joseph Palado and Mr. John Osmeña gave them a speech. Thus next, all the teams took victory photos with the coaches and ate up as they celebrated.

The 2nd match was in MCS’ favor as MCS Phoenix took the crown and victoriously succeeded in winning the Championship for the U19 category in Women’s volleyball. With the school’s core values of Faith, Excellence, and Service, the Volleyball teams have shown that they are skilled and truly passionate about their sport, which is what made them winners. Despite their losses, they’ve never lost passion and hope and were determined to play. Nonetheless, the MCS Volleyball teams couldn't have done it without their coaches—Coach Palado and Coach Osmeña.

Congratulations, MCS Phoenix for your succeeding efforts and hard work! Youve made Malate Catholic School proud.
