IDENTIFICATION BADGES


The School Committee recognizes the importance of a safe and secure learning environment for its students and staff. Being able to easily determine whether an individual is in a building legitimately is one aspect of providing such an environment. Therefore, all employees of Lewiston Public Schools shall be provided with and are required to wear a picture identification badge.


The district’s photo identification badge system will serve as an instant identification system for security purposes and will assist parents and other visitors to school locations in identifying school employees. Employees will display the identification badge at all times in the performance of their duties on district property.


All employee identification badges are the property of the School Department and must be returned to the building administrator upon resignation, termination, or retirement.


Employees are required to report the loss or theft of their identification badge to the Office of Human Resources (795-4100) as soon as possible during normal business hours.


A badge system, with appropriate designation, shall be used for visitors to schools during regular school hours and for substitutes and/or temporary employees.


The Superintendent shall develop appropriate procedures to implement this policy.
