ACCIDENT REPORTS


Accurate and prompt accident reporting is essential to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future. When there are personal injuries and/or property damage, prompt reports are also vital in assuring the school unit, staff, students and others of proper insurance coverage.


The School Committee requires that an accident report be filed for every accident that takes place on school property; involves a school vehicle, students or staff on school- sponsored trips; or involves staff members on authorized school business trips. Accident reports are required whether or not an injury or damage is immediately evident.


The Superintendent/designee shall develop and implement accident report procedures and forms which will be available in each school. The purposes of the forms are to:

1) provide information that will be helpful in preventing future accidents, 

2) provide information needed for filing insurance claims, and 

3) provide information which may be important in litigation.
