SCHOOL NUTRITION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 

CHARGING, REFUNDS,  UNCLAIMED FUNDS 

Lunch Charge Policy: 

The Lewiston School Nutrition program strives to make sure that every child is fed every day. In the case that a child does not have sufficient funds to cover their meal the following steps will take place. 

Elementary School Students: 

All students will receive a complete reimbursable meal from the school cafeteria. After October 1st those students who have 5 days or more with a negative account will receive an alternative lunch entrée of Sun butter and Jelly, salad bar and milk. Your child will still be able to enjoy a complete breakfast. Any child who has a negative balance on their account will not be able to purchase A La Carte items or snack items from the cafeteria. If an alternative meal is being served, your child will still be charged the cost of the meal to their account. 

Lewiston Middle School/ Lewiston High School: 

All students will receive a complete reimbursable meal from the school cafeteria. After the first week of school those students with a negative $20.00 balance will be fed an alternative meal of sun butter and jelly, salad bar and milk. Your child will still be able to enjoy a complete breakfast. Any child who has a negative balance on their account will not be able to purchase A La Carte items or snack items from the cafeteria. When an alternative meal is being served, your child will still be charged the cost of the meal to their account. 

At all locations, weekly reminders will be sent home to the parents of students with account balances of negative $20.00. Balances will rollover from year to year and from school to school. If you have questions about your child’s account please contact your child’s school or the Nutrition office for more information. Free and reduced applications are available at any time during the year.

Refunds: 

Any parent that wishes a refund must do so in writing. Please include the students name, grade and amount requested. This should be signed

 and given to the Nutrition Department. 

Unclaimed Funds: 

All refunds must be requested within one year. Unclaimed funds will then become the property of Lewiston Public Schools.
