With their first day of practice on Feb. 28, the track season officially began, with their meet against Canby High School at home on March 15.

Coach Isaac Fredrick has worked hard to improve the team and the results have been positive, as evidenced by the Dual BTF Meet. Many relays, hurdles, discus, javelin, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vaults were won by David Douglas.

Canby won the men’s 100-meter dash, followed by juniors Emmanuel Kargbo in second and Casey Meyer in third. Freshman Nevayah Samuels won the women’s 100-meter dash, while Canby and sophomore Bella Campbell finished third and fourth respectively.

David Douglas took first, second, and third place in the men’s and women’s 110m hurdles. For the men’s javelin, juniors Jonas Hobson-Reeves came in first place and Isaac Cashdollar came in second. Canby took third place along with fourth and fifth. The women’s javelin went to senior Aspen Pearce, and second went to junior Korea Williams. Canby came in third place.

Senior Blake Wade took first place in the men’s high jump, and junior Jesus Ruiz Alcaraz took second. Sophomore Troy Hockett took third. For the women’s high jump, Canby took first and second place, and sophomore Veronica Maxwell came in third.

Junior Alina Bosyuk, who was the MHC champion in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles last year, was highlighted by The Gresham Outlook as an athlete of note this year. During the winter, Bosyuk stays in shape and works on her legs. Not only that, although she eats what she wants, she pays attention to calories and fats. When she goes on runs, she eats food with high protein to give her enough energy.

“I have a strong commitment to David Douglas track and field to help kids be successful in this sport,” said coach Frederick. “I also have experience from coaching several years and college-level track and field.”
