Night With The Scots, the yearly basketball season kickoff event, has finally returned to David Douglas after two years in pandemic conundrums.

There was no entry cost to Night With The Scots, held in the north gym, although raffle tickets cost $1.00 for each entry ticket. The student and parent sections were filled with supportive crowds with high energy. Raffle prizes included coffee cups, Dutch Bros gift cards and more. Ticket numbers were randomly called throughout the event.

Both the men and women basketball teams came together to show off their skills to fans, parents, and peers. Alongside the basketball teams were the Tams dance team and Cheer.

“After not being able to cheer at a basketball game for two years, this was an amazing kickstart to the basketball season,” said sophomore cheerleader Anastacia Paunovic.

The night also included a staff knockout game, along with the raffle prizes and routine performances by the Tams and Cheer, who performed their crowd engaging cheers while the Tams performed their 2021 Hip Hop routine , “Throwbacks”. A surprise rendition of High School Musical’s Get’cha Head in the Game was performed for the crowd by the women’s basketball team. The girls performed a dribbling, dancing, and tumbling routine to the song.

“The absolute chaos of the student section and dancing to the music was so fun and definitely a night I’ll never forget,” said Paunovic.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams scrimaged with the help of the audience chanting the count of hoops they made. Towards the end of the night, students cheered some teachers on who gathered to play a knockout basketball game. Steve Vancil won for the male teachers and Carol Acree won for the female teachers. Students sang and danced with their peers on the bleachers while songs were played throughout the event. JV Cheer supported varsity cheer throughout the night as the knockout games were played. The evening also included a three-point competition, and fans, students, and parents were also provided a chance to see the boys' dunking skills.
