The baseball team won its first home game against Benson, 9-1, on March 18, due to strong pitching and solid defense.
The first inning started with Benson at the plate. The Scots struck out three consecutive Techmen. The first Scots batter walked to first, followed by a double. Home base was then stolen, giving Douglas the first point of the game. The first inning ended with the Scots striking out.
The second inning started with Benson striking out twice, and the third out was made by the Scot’s first baseman. Douglas then hit a double and a single, followed by a walk. A single RBI then brought three Scots home, the inning ending 4-0, David Douglas.
The third inning began with Benson striking out. Benson then hit a single which led to them stealing home. Benson then struck out twice. The Scots then made it to second, followed by two more singles. The inning ended with a pop fly out, the score now 4-1.
Benson struck out twice in the fourth and lined out to first. The Scots hit five singles and stole home four times, ending the inning 8-1.
The fifth began with Benson striking out. The Scot’s batting turn lasted four batters, the last out was a play on third.
Three strikeouts ended Benson’s sixth inning. Three Scots batters walked to first then stole home, the game ending 9-1.
“Matthew [Alexander] is going to be our number one pitcher this year,” said coach Matthew Kramer. “That was our gameplay. He did his part and we played strong defense behind him.”
