The U.S Department of Justice indicted Proud Boys National leader Enrique Tarrio on conspiracy on March 9 due to the U.S. capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021.

Twitter stated that Tarrio was dragged out of bed wearing nothing but undergarments and was immediately put into handcuffs.

“Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio arrested this morning in his underwear in Miami for conspiracy in connection with the J6 insurrection," stated a tweet by Ron Filipkowski.

Officials state Tarrio has not been accused of physically taking part in the breach of the Capitol, but charged in connection with the attack. He is said to have instead remained in contact with other members of the Proud Boys during the attack. He was not present there the date of the attack, but was organizing and communicating with the proud boys hence the attack. In the footage of the arrest taken by NBC 6 South Florida, Tarrio can be seen exiting his house with his hands raised, surrendering himself to police.

The Justice Department said Tarrio conspired to corruptly obstruct, influence, and impede an official proceeding, the certification of the Electoral College vote. Tarrio has previously served time in jail for burning a church's Black Lives Matter banner in December 2020 and for bringing high-capacity rifle magazines into Washington D.C. Tarrio did not attend the riot because he was being detained by police for the vandalism of the flag. Although he was not physically there, federal agents allege he organized and planned alongside some other five members of the Proud Boys attack of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Tarrio will be back in court on March 11 when a judge will choose whether or not he will be given a bond.

“I don’t agree with or condone what happened at the Capitol when it comes to the violence," Tarrio said. "We went to Washington D.C. with the intent of sitting there and supporting President Trump. Obviously I wasn’t there and I can’t tell you what was in their heads, but I think the mob mentality just took over.”
