Boys' tennis shocks Franklin Lightening

The boys’ tennis team beat the Franklin Lightning with a score of 5-3.

Playing first singles, junior Jonathan Nguyen overwhelmed his Franklin opponent, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In the second singles, senior Kris Vo lost 1-6, 4-6. Third singles player junior Henry Nguyen was defeated 2-6, 6-7, and in fourth singles, junior Kevin Le won by forfeit.

First doubles senior Carlos Palo and junior Jacob Nguyen lost, 0-6, 5-7. At second doubles, senior Michaell Bernadino and junior Dion Fernandez claimed victory after a tough match, with hard-earned 8-6, 4-6, 6-4 victories. At third doubles, senior Juan Olmos and sophomore Brandon Chu both came back and won with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. In fourth doubles freshman, Tim Do and junior Vincent Yip both won by forfeit.

“We are getting better as a team and the kids are working hard to improve their skills,” said coach Brad Joy. “Our goal is to peak for the District Tournament and get as many players as possible to qualify for the State Tournament. Our team is very young and inexperienced, but they are getting better every day. We are led by Jonathan Nguyen, our number one singles player, Kris Vo, our number two singles player, and our number one doubles team of Henry Nguyen and Jerry Pham.”
