DDHS hearkened back to the days of the Oregon Trail with this year's Homecoming Week, Oct. 11-15, featuring a "Wild N’ West” theme and culminating in a carnival on Oct. 15.

Due to unforeseen circumstances relating to COVID-19, a traditional dance could not be held, so the Student Council brewed up something creative—a Homecoming carnival, held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 15, where students and faculty enjoyed carnival games, prizes, music, and more in the Anthony Palermini Stadium. That evening the football team soundly defeated Reynolds 38-13 in the Homecoming game.

Tickets for the carnival were $5 for students with ASB stickers and $8 without. Since COVID-19 regulations limited capacity, seniors and juniors were given pre-sale admission the first week. Tickets were available for all grades the following week. In addition, $10 Homecoming shirts were sold.

During advisory classes, students nominated two of their peers to represent their class via a Google form. Each class was then given the two candidates with the most votes while the senior class was given the top six with the most votes. At the Homecoming game, seniors Aspen Pearce and Taj O’Malley were crowned Queen and King. The Senior Court also included Tazha Davis, Brook Le, Tori Somsanith, and Sam Sukin. The juniors were represented by Andy Tan and Dora Hussein, the sophomores by Aaron Busi and Anastacia Paunovic, and the freshmen by Kylee Williams and Lila Alvarez.

In the days preceding the Homecoming carnival, Scots showed their school spirit during Spirit Week. To kick off the week the first theme was Pajama Day, when students showed up in cozy sleepwear. Pajama Day was followed by Country Club Day, when the halls were filled with argyle sweaters, tennis skirts, and polo shirts. Wednesday was Denim Day, when the halls were full of jean jackets and Levi 501s. Thursday was “Kick it Old School” (an ode to the decades before), and Friday was the Wild N’ West theme itself.
