The boys’ and girls’ golf teams started the spring season strong with their Mount Hood Conference (MHC) League matches hosted by Central Catholic and Clackamas on March 16-17.

The boys’ team concluded its first MHC match at Rose City Golf Course. Sophomore Lincoln Satterthwaite placed fourth overall with a score of 80 strokes, and his brother, junior Drew Satterthwaite followed closely in 10th with a score of 85 strokes.

The season has just started and the three varsity players have just come out of basketball season, so coach Tyler Satterthwaite anticipates a slow start to begin, but anticipates the high road during matches.

“Our goal is to win the conference championship and go to state as a team,” said coach Satterthwaite.

Finishing in fifth place, the girls’ team secured its first MHC meet at Stone Creek Golf Course. Sophomore Tiffany Chiu participated in her first 18 hole varsity match and finished with a score of 116 strokes. This being their first official match, coach Whiteny Soule has confidence in their timely growth and their willpower for lower scores in future plays.

Coach Soule is ecstatic for her players and is determined to keep the spirit up at even tougher courses, like Persimmon Golf Course. She is anticipating several of her players to make the jump from JV to varsity in the coming weeks.

“I want the girls to keep their confidence up, even when playing those challenging courses,” said coach Soule. “I am super excited for this season. My girls are excited, quick learners, hard workers, and very motivated to get better.”
