Scots’ cheer took home the 2nd place award from the OSAA State Championships.

"Some of our strengths of this season was our athletes' ability to be flexible and make changes or step in wherever needed," said coach Mikyla Pruett. "Whenever they stepped on the mat they worked hard to put on a show for the judges, even when things didn't go perfectly the way they wanted. The ladies truly bought into our acronym of the year, As a Team, For the Team!"

The Scots gave an memorable performance on Feb.12 and were awarded second place in the 6A-All Girl division. In addition to placing second, Cheer was also awarded the Leslie Maley Creative Choreography award which is voted on and awarded by the judges to the team that performs their favorite routine.

In first place was Newberg Cheer with 7.1 points, making them the OSAA all state champions. It was a close call for the Scots, but the creative choreography award was a definite no brainer for the Scots to receive.

The girls hit their routine and brought lots of high energy to the mat. They had impressive round off back tucks and jump sequences, and scored a 34.8 for their tumbling and jumping skills. Their jump sequences consisted of left-fronts, toe touches, and right-fronts. Their stunts were clean and high energy. The bases drove the stunts up, making it look effortless.

Senior flyer Delaney Holly remained sharp in her libs and in her walk-overs in the stunt pyramid. She did a lib and into a cradle while keeping balance and calling out the cheer. Cheerl did toe touches during the cheer section and even threw back handsprings. They said their cheer.

“Oh yeah, we’re the Scots!”

David Douglas earned itself 34 points in the building skills section. They earned themselves a total 104.30 points, earning them the Leslie Maley Creative Choreography award.

“Covid has really challenged us all and I am proud of our team for overcoming these obstacles and placing so high in states,” said sophomore base Anastacia Paunovic. David Douglas Cheer has won as state champions in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2021.
