My oil painting this year was inspired by Dutch still life artists. I wanted to attempt to capture the key elements of a still life painting, whilst relating it back to my circumstances. I created my painting from home, during lockdown, so I selected regular items from around my house that I thought somewhat conveyed essential messages encompassing the times. The slowness of lockdown was represented through the snail shells, meanwhile, the fruits and their bright colours symbolise hope and creativity that lockdown has handed us.
