My final piece this year aims to explore the ideas of ‘existential nihilism’, ( the theory that our life has no intrinsic meaning or value) and ‘optimistic nihilism’, (the belief that there is no underlying meaning to life from a perspective of hope; in order to live our existence to the utmost). Through these ideas I have endeavoured to communicate the feelings of fear and loneliness that equates with the pessimistic ideas of existential nihilism, juxtaposed with the beauty and tranquility that is associated with the optimistic theory.
