Around the age of 5, confidence influenced me to begin telling lies and manipulate deception. Whether I got away with the lie or not, it could be explored through my facial expressions. My artwork represents how innocence can be destroyed through a lie and how lying can harm someone’s identity. Each portrait represents a time in my childhood when I have told a lie, displayed through three children who combine together to hide my identity, purely symbolising the lies that I have told. Importantly, the portraits were explored through the use of pencils which are symbolic of a child’s imagination. Ironically, a child’s imagination can also be explored through lies.
