Palestine, Palestinian territories

The Palestinian territories, or occupied Palestinian territories, are generally defined as the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem—lands occupied by Israel after the 1967 war but not including Golan Heights.

Use Palestinian territories in the modern-day context. Example:

    The Levant encompasses much of modern Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories.

Do not use the term Palestine, or the Palestinian flag, on par with other country names or flags in a list or graphic.

Use the term Palestine only in a historical context. Example:

    Palmyra’s most famous citizen is undoubtedly Queen Zenobia, who leveraged the city's wealth and political chaos across the Roman        Empire to briefly wrest control of the eastern Roman provinces of Egypt, Syria and Palestine.
