meteoroid:
a solid piece of rock or dust moving in orbit through the solar system.
meteor:
the streak of light produced when a meteoroid enters Earth's atmosphere. Called a fireball when especially spectacular.
meteorite:
a portion of a meteoroid that reaches the surface of Earth without being completely vaporized.
meteor shower:
a group of meteors with approximately a common trajectory.
