big, great, large

These terms are often interchangeable, but in strict discrimination:

            big is used to emphasize bulk, mass, weight, or volume;

            little is the antonym:

                        a big baby,

                        a big business

            great is used to denote physical magnitude but usually connotes

            some impression (as of wonder, surprise, amusement, or annoyance)

            associated with the size:

                         a great river

                        a great success

            large is preferred when considering dimensions, extent, capacity,

            quantity, or amount; small is the antonym:

                        a large studio

                        a large amount
