Do not use Dr., whether for a medical doctor (M.D.) or academic doctor (Ph.D.) before a name.

Preferred editorial style calls for describing a person's expertise when giving the full name on first reference, and then using the last name in subsequent mentions.

Omit Dr. in: Martin Luther King, Jr.
