MUSIC TITLES
Long compositions are set in italics without quotation marks and are capped. Applies to names of complete albums, ballets, musical comedies, operas, operettas, oratorios, tone poems, etc.:
Swan Lake, Carmen, Wagner's Die Meistersinger, the Messiah.
Shorter works, such as songs, short instrumental pieces, and individual selections within albums or tapes are roman within quotation marks and are capped:
"Old Folks at Home"
"Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"
Long or short pieces identified by the form plus a number or key are put in roman, no quotation marks, and capped:
the Sonata in F minor, opus 106
the Third Symphony
Piano Concerto No. 5
If a work also has a descriptive title, it is italicized (or put within quotation marks):
Piano Concerto No. 5 "Emperor" or
the Emperor Concerto or
the "Emperor" Concerto.
the Third Symphony or
the Eroica Symphony or
the "Eroica" Symphony
Names of concert tours are in roman: the Eras tour.
