gender-neutral language

Whenever possible, aim for gender-neutral terms and inclusive language.

When possible use human, not man. Avoid "man-made." Consider "artificial" or "manufactured" or another term that may work in context.

Words such as "individual" and "parents" may be used in the context of pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Use "uncrewed" for "unmanned" in a space context.

Express occupations in terms that do not identify the sex of the person, unless the sex is relevant:

            letter carrier, firefighter, police officer

Such terms as author, aviator, poet, and sculptor are both masculine and feminine.
