(C) Claim: About phenomenon or about the results of an investigation
A claim is a statement that answers the question. It will usually only be one sentence in length. The claim does not include any explanation, reasoning, or evidence.
What can you conclude?
It should describe the relationship between dependent and independent variables.
(E) Evidence: Data used to support the claim
The evidence is the data used to support the claim. It can be either quantitative or qualitative depending on the question and/or lab.
Sufficient—Use enough evidence to support the claim.
Appropriate—Use data that support your claim.
Qualitative, Quantitative, or a combination of both.
(R) Reasoning: Ties together the claim and the evidence
An explanation of “why and how” the evidence supports the claim. It should include an explanation of the underlying science concept that produced the evidence or data.
Shows how or why the data count as evidence to support the claim.
Provides the justification for why this evidence is important to this claim.
Includes one or more scientific principles that are important to the claim and evidence.
