Joe DiSalvo began his soccer career at Lighthouse Boys Club. At North Catholic DiSalvo was a 2-time All-Catholic selection and a 1st team All-City selection as a senior. In his senior year DiSalvo also helped North defeat Dougherty in the Catholic League finals by a score of 1-0. He was also part of the Falcons City Championship team of 1970 who shared the “Bulletin City Series Trophy” with Frankford after the teams played to a scoreless tie.
DiSalvo went on to play soccer in College at Temple University where he was a four year starter from 1972 to 1975. When he graduated in 1976 Joe was the 2nd leading goal scorer in Temple soccer history with 29 goals (He is currently 4th all-time). Joe DiSalvo also ranks 9th in Total Career Points with (60). He is also 7th in Points in one year with (30) in 1975, 5th in Goals in one Year with (13) in 1975 & also 9th for goals in one year with (11) in 1974.
DiSalvo was drafted in the 1st round by the Washington Diplomats of the NASL in 1975. He then played professionally for the New Jersey Americans of the ASL (1976 & 1977).
Joe DiSalvo then went on to a distinguished coaching career. He was the 1st Men’s Soccer Head Coach at Holy Family University. He coached from 1989 to 1993. His 1990, 1991and 1992 teams were Keystone Athletic Conference Champions. The 1990 & 91 teams were also District 19 Champs. He was voted Coach of the year for District 19 in 1991 as well.
DiSalvo then went on to coach at Chestnut Hill Academy High School (1996-1998). Joe has also coached several outstanding youth club teams such as CR Dynamo, FC Delco and FC Philly and was named the EPYSA “coach of the year” in 2000. Joseph DiSalvo was inducted into the SE Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame in 1998.
