Joe Walls hails from Nativity parish in Port Richmond. Walls played soccer at North during the first year of the Falcon’s amazing run of 116 consecutive games without a loss in the Catholic League. Playing for Father Daniel McLernan he earned All-Catholic & All-Scholastic honors in his junior and senior years. Joe was also part of the 1958 & 1959 Falcon squads which won the Catholic League Crown. Walls also assisted on Charles Soley’s goal in a 1-0 victory over Olney High in the City Championship game in 1959. Joe was also an honor student and Class Vice President.
Walls went on to a superb College Soccer career at St Joseph’s University where he would be a three-year starter at center halfback. In his junior season he earned Honorable Mention All-America honors (1962) and in his senior season Joe was named Second Team All-America (1963). He is one of just four players in SJU men's soccer history to earn multiple Regional all-America honors... Walls helped the Hawks compile a 21-6-2 overall record during his career, including a 9-1 record during his junior season (1962). This is still the best winning percentage in SJU men's soccer history. Walls was the mainstay of a defensive unit that allowed just 31 goals in 29 games (1.07 goals against average), and Joe was part of 10 shutouts over his career. On November 16, 1963 he scored the lone goal of his decorated career against Gettysburg College.
After graduating from SJU in 1964 Walls went on to serve as a public school teacher for over 40 years. He was the chairman of math department at Pennsbury High School upon his retirement. In 2002 Joe Walls was elected into the St Joe’s University Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2006 he was inducted into the SE Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame.
