JOE STEFFA '76
Joe Steffa hails from the Juniata Park section of town and attended Holy Innocents parish grade school. Steffa was a hard tackling midfielder for the Falcons who won back to back Catholic League Championships in 1974 & 1975 by defeating Monsignor Bonner and St Joe’s Prep respectively for the title. In both of these games Joe made several spectacular plays to bring home the wins for North. Steffa was also a defensive stalwart as the Falcons defeated Roxborough High in the 1975 City title match. He helped the team post a clean sheet in the 4-0 victory. Steffa was named All-Catholic and All-City after his senior season.
Steffa went on to an outstanding College soccer career at Temple U under NC Soccer Hall of Famer & head coach John Boles from 1976 – 1979. While there Steffa’s Owls teams went 48-11-5 overall. In his junior season, the 1978 Temple squad set a school record for most wins in a season with 14. It has since been equaled but not beaten through the 2013 season. Joe Steffa was named to the Philadelphia Soccer 7 All Star team as a midfielder after the 1979 season.
