Lawrence Grebe started his youth soccer at the Kensington Rec. Center. Grebe was a three year varsity soccer team member and three time PCL champion while at North. Grebe was also on the 1962 City Championship Team which defeated Mastbaum 1-0 in the title match. As a senior Grebe’s 1962 Falcon team finished the season with an unblemished record of 19 wins, 0 loses and 0 ties. Grebe was voted an All-Catholic & All-Scholastic player in his senior year. He also set the record for most varsity goals scored All-time at North Catholic when he graduated in 1963. This record would stand for 30 years.
In College Larry played for the legendary coach Jack Dunn at St Joseph’s University. Grebe led the Hawks in scoring in 1964 with 11 goals. He is currently 6th place all time for goals scored in a single season for a St Joe’s player. He also scored 5 goals in a single match verses LaSalle University on (10/14/64). This is still a school record to this day. Larry Grebe was also named a Regional All-American at SJU.
