Steve Wacker was an outstanding forward for the Falcons under Head Coach Jerry Brindisi. He was from the Holmesburg section of the City and his siblings had attended Judge and Ryan. But Wacker was eager to play for the resurging Falcon Soccer Program in the late 90s. In his freshman and sophomore seasons North teams made it all the way back to the PCL Championship finals in 1997 and 1998; losing by a single goal both years. However Steve emerged as a star player as a junior and this time the Falcons would win the PCL title in a thrilling 3-2 overtime game against Archbishop Ryan. Wacker scored the second North Catholic goal in the title match. He was also honored as a 1st Team All-Catholic as a junior. As a senior Steve Wacker was named 1st Team All-Catholic, 1st team All-City and MVP of the Catholic League. He was also named to the PA Coaches All-State team. A top academic achiever at North, Wacker then received an Athletic & Academic Scholarship to attend Temple University.
In his soccer career at Temple, Wacker was named Soccer Seven “Rookie of the Year” in 2001. He was also named to the All-Soccer Seven Team several times. Wacker was named to the All-Atlantic 10 team after the 2001 & 2004 seasons. In his senior year he was 1st team All-Atlantic 10 and he earned Addidas All-American team honors. He was also named Temple University’s male athlete of the year when he graduated in 2005.
Wacker was also an outstanding student athlete and was named Academic All-District several times. He won the Soccer Seven Student Athlete of the year honors in 2004 and was named Academic All-American by ESPN. Steve graduated Temple in 2005 with a degree in Science.
In 2005 Wacker started playing professionally for the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Steve was a member of the 2007 Championship team. He finished his pro career with the Kixx after the 2008 season. Currently Steve is a Youth Soccer coach for the South Jersey Barons Elite. He also trains several soccer clubs in the tri-state area and recently joined forces with fellow NC Soccer Hall of Fame member Pat Morris in the “Morris-Wacker Soccer Academy.”
