Tom Smith played on the Falcons ’63, ’64 and ’65 Catholic League championship teams during the middle of their famous 116-game PCL unbeaten streak. Smith was named an All-Catholic selection as a senior. Tom then played College soccer at Philadelphia Textile from 1966 to 1969 where he was selected as an All-league player.
After graduating from Philadelphia Textile in the spring of 1970, Smith took over as Varsity head coach of North Catholic Soccer that fall. He coached the Falcons to overwhelming success from 1970-1981, winning six Catholic League championships and five city titles. He also coached the team to a streak of 36 games without a loss in the late 70s. Smith then went on to coach Soccer at his College Alma mater Textile in 1982 and ’83.
Today Tom Smith works as Assistant Secretary of Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He was inducted into the SE Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009.
