DISCUSSING ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS
Katherine: «I love nature very much. I always try to keep places that I visit clean and safe, and I respect their people and culture. I wish other people behaved so! What if a clue to this problem lies in our education? Many people wouldn’t just think that their efforts to save the environment may somehow matter. Others believe that they don’t have to do anything for their planet (as if their planet isn’t their home... it is home,it is just a little bigger than a flat). Our beliefs are developed during the process of education. Maybe, if we change a few moments in the education system (not only school, college, university, etc; but also and maybe mainly in our home upbringing), we will save our planet».
Anna: «I come from a region of Poland that is very industrial and urbanized — lots of factories and a lot of pollution as an effect. It’s not possible to renew such devastation and destruction by human activity. But there are also some places in our country that are protected because there are lots of rare plants and animals living there. These are called national parks and I consider them as a good solution in our times. There is also a place called the «green lungs of Poland» where you can find very large areas of forests.
In my opinion it’s really important to show people the necessity to change their lifestyle and rescue our planet. A simple example is buying things in plastic bottles that cannot be recycled. I think that showing people a new style of life could be rather effective and would be a good addition to showing them how the environment would look without us destroying it».
Jyothi Nagarathnam: «I am from Bangalore in India. As a kid, I have seen my city clean and green with fresh clean air and a moderate climate in any season of the year. Now after nearly two decades, the city has lost its charm because of the pollution from the vehicles and industries situated within the city’s boundaries. I believe it also has a very significant effect in terms of ecological balance because of excessive interaction with nature by humans and thereby exhausting all the natural resources. I genuinely feel that places like national parks should increase in number throughout the world; making people aware of the consequences of misusing nature’s resources, and at the same time considering our planet is our only home, we should take care of this only place as we would of our homes».

I тип умовного речення (First Conditional)
Перший тип умовного речення використовується в ситуаціях, коли мова йде про майбутнє. Проте ми не впевнені в результаті умови, оскільки сама умова ще не наступила, хоча вона реальна.
Підрядне речення в I типі умовного речення буде знаходитись в Present Simple, проте для позначення головного речення вже буде використовуватися Future Simple:
If + підрядне речення у Present Simple + головне речення в Future Simple
Приклади:
If it rains, I will stay at my friend’s house. – Якщо піде дощ, я залишуся у будинку мого друга.
If I see Tom, I will ask him about John. – Якщо я побачу Тома, я запитаю в нього про Джона.
Як бачимо, в підрядному та головному реченні мова йде про майбутнє. Тобто, є передумови, за яких може бути виконана ця умова.
Замість will також можна використовуватися can, may або shall:
I can call Marry if she is at home. – Я можу зателефонувати Мері, якщо вона буде вдома.

Places to visit in Britain
Bath
A town not far from Bristol, this is one of England’s most attractive cities. It contains some of the finest Roman buildings in Britain, including the famous baths, which were built in 60AD. In the 18th century, it became the most fashionable spa towns in Britain. Today you can steel see many streets of elegant terrace3d houses. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Canterbury
A historic city in southeast England. In 597 AD it was the place where St. Augustine introduced Christianity to England. The current cathedral was started in 1070. Canterbury is the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the head of the Anglican Church. Although Canterbury was damaged during World War 2, it still has many attractive medieval buildings and narrow streets.
Edinburgh
The capital of Scotland. The centre of the city is full of historic medieval buildings, churches, palaces and museums. It is especially famous for its castle (12th century) which stands high over the city on a granite rock.it is an important university centre and is a centre for the arts. The arts festival, which takes place here in August, is the largest in Europe.
Oxford
A city about fifty miles northwest of London. Its world-famous university was started in the 12th century – one of the first in Europe. The university has over thirty colleges but perhaps the most famous include Merton, Balliol and University College. In the 20th century, it also became England’s main centre for making cars. However, education still dominates oxford – in fact, eight percent of the population are teachers!
Stratford-on-Avon
Stratford is a market town to the south of Birmingham. It is most famous for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Every year Stratford is visited by over two million tourists. Today it is an important cultural centre (the town is the home of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre).

Тема: Урок граматики. Past Simple and Past Continuous (Revision)
1) Повторити граматичний матеріал
Past Continuous – минулий тривалий час, тобто, це означає, що дія відбулась в минулому і тривала протягом певного періоду часу.
Випадки, в яких вживаємо Past Continuous:
1) коли потрібно описати тривалу дію, яка мала місце в минулому. Нам не обов’язково знати скільки часу вона тривала, проте ми повинні бути впевнені, що вона відбувалася саме в даний момент, тому в реченні вказується точний час, або присутня інша дія, виражена в Past Simple:
When I came Jack was still sitting in the kitchen.
2) якщо якась тривала дія в минулому переривається іншою дією (частіше короткою). Ця тривала дія вживається в часі Past Continuous, а дія, яка її перервала – в Past Simple, при цьому в реченні ці дії пов’язуються між собою за допомогою слів as та when:
As he was eating his breakfast, somebody knocked at his door.
3) коли кілька дій в минулому відбуваються одночасно, при цьому використовується слово while:
She was watching a concert while her mother was cooking a dinner.
4) коли ми описуємо атмосферу, яка супроводжує основну дію, а також якщо ми передаємо своє негативне ставлення до характеру певної людини чи її поведінки:
The boy was always playing tricks on his younger brother.
Потрібно пам’ятати про дієслова, які не вживаються у часах групи Continuous:
- дієслова емоцій: to like, to love, to hate, to dislike, to fear, to envy, to mind etc.;
- змішані дієслова: to appear, to feel, to have, to hear, to look, to see, to weigh etc.;
- абстрактні дієслова: to be, to want, to cost, to seem, to need, to care, to contain etc.;
- дієслова власності: to possess, to own, to belong.
