A huge thanks to the Student Body for picking up their new IDs, making the distribution quick and easy. Please be sure to keep them on you while at school and report any lost IDs to the deans' office. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to drop by the deans' office and let us know. The 2024 - 2025 school year is months away, but now is a good time for students to start thinking about classes they'd like to take.
The Academic Expo provides an opportunity for current and prospective students and families to learn about all of TA’s classes. Each academic department will have a visual display, staffed by its teachers, that highlights the department's classes. You'll be able to speak with the teachers and ask questions.
The Academic Expo also helps students chart their academic path beyond next year. For example, a Trigonometry teacher could suggest a math class to a sophomore that would best prepare the student for that senior-level class. Academic Expo Video
Unified Champion School Banner Celebration
Thornton Academy is excited to have received National Banner Recognition as a Unified Champion School this year. On Friday, March 1st, we will gather in the gym for our Banner celebration. We will follow the rally schedule below.
Juniors that signed up to take the digital SAT here at TA next Wednesday, March 6th, should refer to their school email for exam day information. Any questions should be directed to Ms. Logan at jennifer.logan@thorntonacademy.org

Become a TA Tour Guide! Help welcome prospective students and families to Thornton Academy! TA Tour Guides give campus tours, connect with students on email and social media, and help out at open houses and fairs. Share your love of Thornton Academy with students and families who have yet to discover our school. FMI jamie.small@thorntonacademy.org
It is that time of year for the Children's Winter Carnival, sponsored by the TA Student Council, on Saturday, March 16th, 9am-12:00pm.
We want your help with as many TA students, TA staff, and TA Alumni as possible. This is an excellent event for families within our community to have fun while supporting a great cause. We hope that, with your commitment, we can fill the gym, stage, and lobby with fun things for the kids to do.
We would love to have new clubs, teams, and organizations join! We would like to see groups from TAMS participate too!

Congratulations to Mackenzie Shields and Sebastian Shields for being named the Performer of the Meet Class A States 2024!! They are the first individuals from Thornton Academy to receive this recognition in the same meet and they are siblings! Awesome job Mackenzie and Sebastian!

The following TA Artists will have artwork on display at the Youth Art Month exhibit at the Portland Museum of Art from February 28 - March 31, 2024, Lower Ground Floor, and digitally on the PMA's website.
A Certificate Presentation for grades 9-12 is March 9 at 5:30 PM, in the PMA Auditorium, Lower Ground Floor. Congratulations to the following TA Artists!
Ms. Thomas selected a digital photograph created by Larry Zitong Zhou, grade 12 in AP Art & Design. "Larry has created an incredible series of self-portraits during the first semester and I selected a colorful montage self-portrait that was inspired by the work of Andy Warhol and expressess contemporary issues. I am most impressed with the message of the artwork and with Larry's work ethic.
Ms. Altman selected a needle felted sculpture created by Lilah Thomas, grade 11 in Sculpture class. “Lilah is a phenomenal student who always goes above and beyond in all that she does. She created this piece, “Lily”
Ms. Thomas, an active member of both the Maine Art Education Association (MAEA) and the Maine Education Association (MEA) has been invited to participate by submitting one student artwork for the annual Youth Art Month Exhibition at the MEA Office in Augusta.
Ms. Thomas submitted one Mixed Media artwork created by Natalie Clark '25, titled "Tropical Desert Fusion" for this occasion. Natalie's artwork will be professionally framed by the MEA and exhibited with approximately 30 other student artworks from around the state. Ms. Thomas chose Natalie's artwork, "because of her unique ability to create artworks that express visual competency and expression. Natalie has proven to be a serious art student and I am pleased to feature her artwork in this special venue."
This exhibition will run from February - November 2024 with an opening reception planned for March 10, 2024, 1-2:30 PM at the MEA Office, 35 Community Drive, Augusta
Interested in becoming a mentor? This is the place for you!! The BEST BUDDY program builds friendships between people with and without intellectual and physical disabilities. It offers social mentoring while improving the quality of life and level of inclusion. We’re looking for leaders! Come fit in with us every first Monday of the month in LB 104 from 2:50-3:30PM. The T.A. Anglers' Society is open to any and all students with an interest in the outdoors. We meet weekly on Wednesdays from 2:50-3:20 and conduct monthly outings.
Student Council will meet at 8:00 in the Library on Thursday, February 29th, to discuss Children's Winter Carnival and the Winter Carnival Dance.
We welcome all students to participate!
