On Wednesday, May 3rd, all TA 9th and 10th-grade students will participate in NWEA testing. May 3rd is an Early Release day and the whole morning will be dedicated to testing. There will be no classes for 11th and 12th grade students. However, students will have the option to participate in post-secondary planning workshops, more details will be sent out via email.
Learning about the NWEA:
During advisory on April 7th, sophomores participated in a class meeting where they learned more about the NWEA test administration. Freshmen have a class meeting scheduled for April 13th. During the week of April 24th, students will participate in practice testing within their Math and English classes and learn more about the test logistics and digital tools available to them when taking the test.
Important facts about the NWEA:
Individual student results are not connected to a student’s class grades, but teachers use the information to inform their instruction.
A student’s results on the NWEA testing do become part of their educational record.
There is no ‘opt-out’ permission available for students and the school will be requiring students to make up testing as necessary.
Before the test day, students should:
Plan for a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
Eat a healthy breakfast at home or arrive at school in time to access breakfast in the cafeteria.
Have their iPad fully charged before arriving at school AND bring their charging block/cord to school.
On the test day:
Snacks and water will be available for students during the test administration, however, students may bring their own water bottles and snacks as preferred.
Student phones and smart watches will need to be turned off during the test and placed in a student’s backpack throughout the duration of the test administration.
Students should bring a book to read or other hard-copy work to complete, as they will not be allowed to access their iPads once they have completed their testing.

College Fair
School Counseling Office would like to invite all Juniors to attend the NEACAC (New England Association for College Admission Counseling) college fair on May 18th at the Augusta Civic Center from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Students will have the opportunity to meet with hundreds of college representatives from around the country. Please sign up at the School Counseling Office. Seating on the bus is limited and students will be selected on a first come first serve basis.
Thornton Academy Permanent Art Collection
The Thornton Academy Permanent Art Collection Committee ("PACC") is pleased to announce the annual call for entries from the graduating class of 2023. PACC invites every graduating senior visual artist to submit one original work of art to be considered for this year’s selection. If your artwork is selected it becomes the property of TA, you will receive a generous gift certificate from a local art supply store, and you will be recognized at the Baccalaureate ceremony on June 2nd.
