Spread the Word Inclusion Day, Thursday, March 3rd: A campaign focused on committing to end the R-word and to be respectful in words and actions towards people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Women's History Month, March, has a 2022 theme of "Providing Healing, Promoting Hope."
International Women's Day, Tuesday, March 8th: A global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2nd
Reminder that there are no upper school classes on Wednesday, March 2nd, due to SAT testing. We hope that non-seniors plan to attend the Academic Expo in the atrium on the afternoon of March 2nd, 4-6pm, to meet with teachers and finalize your course request list for 2022-23. (School counselors will assist you with the course request process in English classes the week of March 7th.)
The missed day of classes on March 2nd will not impact the maroon and gold days on the calendar. March 2nd remains a gold day for TAMS and at the upper school during that week it will be maroon on Tu/Th and gold on M/F as written.
Spread the Word
Spread the Word is a campaign to increase inclusion amongst people with and without developmental disabilities. In schools, workplaces, and communities around the world, local leaders are taking a pledge to create socially inclusive places to learn, work, and live. Thornton Academy will promote the campaign on Tuesday, March 8th, with a focus on building connections to ensure that individuals with and without intellectual disabilities can feel seen, heard, and valued.
You can take action today to make your school, your workplace, your community, and your world more inclusive:
-Seek out someone who has been left out, isolated, or bullied.
-Sit with them. Welcome them.
-Be a friend.
-Be a teammate.
-Attend the Unified Basketball game on Tues, March 8th, at 3:45 PM in the gym and/or Friday, March 11th, at 3:30 PM in Biddeford
-Sign the banner during all lunch waves on Tues March 8th
