Lesson 1: Golden Archer Book Award
Go through the Google Slide show to explain to students about our Golden Archer state of Wisconsin book award. Share the primary and intermediate books that are up for the award. Then have students vote for the Primary category. There are forms for each at the end of the slideshow. Make a copy and you can share in Google Classroom or on your webpage.
Lesson 2: Intro to World Almanac for Kids and Famous Person video in Canva
Model for students how to access World Almanac for Kids as they will be using it to choose a person to research. Note that some articles contain ALOT of information and have linked 'headings' on the left, while others simply have bulleted points. Give students time to explore World Almanac for Kids as this may be the first times some have used it. By the end of this class students should have chosen a person and possibly started taking notes on that person. The attached note catcher has prompts for what kind of information they could search for.
Lesson 3: Creating Videos in Canva
Explain to students that once they have finished researching their person they will be creating a narrated video of that person in Canva. Model in Canva how to create a video and add different 'scenes' or slides. You could follow the below organizational ideas if you would like, they correlate to the items on the note catcher from the previous lesson.
Name and Picture of Famous Person, student would narrate what they are famous for.
Image related to the positive impact and/or awards, accomplishments they have received, student narrates information.
Image related to interesting fact, students narrates information.
Bibliography of resources, no narration needed.
Slides 1-3 would also have the word 'Photo Credit' at the bottom of the 'scene' that links back to the website they took the image from.
The linked videos are a teacher resource, not meant to be shown to students due to their length.
Lesson 4: Continue Famous Person Canva video
Continue to have students work on their video. Those that finish can share out.
