Lesson 1: Let's Find Books- Using Destiny to Locate our Books
Discuss how the library is laid out. Review ABC order and Dewey with students. (Optional slideshow below, make a copy and tweak for your building) As a group activity use Shelver to model how books are shelved. Students then can search Destiny for a book, write down call number on scratch paper, and then locate the book on the shelf. Student can bring book and slip of paper to LMT to check- reward with a sticker. Students will hopefully want to check out that book! If not- review what to do with a book if you change your mind.
Lesson 2: Introduction to Destiny & Review of Call Numbers
Use the slideshow to review Call Numbers, as students will need these to find books on Destiny and shelves.
On the Promethean Panel, model how to find the Destiny Catalog through ClassLink. Model keyword search, author search, and topic buttons. Afterwards, have them partner up and complete the Destiny Scavenger Hunt.
