Review the parts of the book (Front cover, back cover, spine, title page, author, illustrator, and call number). Share the video.
Depending on time, choose a Parts of a Book page (cut/glue or write in the label).

Lesson 2: Fiction versus Non-Fiction
Read Froggy Goes to the Library and a non-fiction book on Frogs. Compare and contrast the two types of books. Play the video reviewing fiction and non-fiction. Go through the Google Slide Show game with students.

Lesson 3: Review Fiction vs Nonfiction and Retell
Read Pick a Perfect Pumpkin: Learning about pumpkin harvests by Robin Koontz . Before reading you can make a connection to last week's fiction vs. nonfiction as well, have them predict what they think this book will be. After reading, discuss the message of the story. Have students create a pumpkin life cycle crown. You will need extra white construction paper to make the strap for around their heads or use a sentence strip and staple to the crown.
Extension Activity:
If using to review fiction vs nonfiction, project PebbleGo onto panel and search 'Pumpkin Harvest' to learn more about pumpkins and/or 'fact check' book to help students realize it is a nonfiction book despite the illustrated pages and 'characters'.
Lesson 4: Brown Bear Brown Bear/Jack-o'-Lantern Activity
Review Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin so students remember the pattern in the story. Explain that you are going to recreate the story to include a Jack-o-Lantern. Use the slides to read through the story. Students will create their own Jack-o-Lantern story. Use white construction paper and direct students to fold the paper into four boxes. Have students draw a fall/Halloween image in each box and write the main color used in the box. Students can then use their paper to tell their own Jack-o-Lantern story.
