Lesson 1: Intro to Book Talk/Historical Fiction Genre
Ask students if they have ever told a friend about a show they watched, or a game they played. Did they try to get their friend to watch/play what they talked about? If so then they were doing a 'commercial' for that game/show. When we do that for books they are book talks. Explain that they are going to need to find a short historical fiction book that they can read before next library to create a book talk for. (Review with students what makes a book historical fiction and how to search specifically for them in Destiny if necessary). To give them an idea of what goes into make a book talk you could use the presentation linked to the right, making a copy to modify anything you see fit.
Lesson 2: Book Talk cont.
Show one of the examples of student book talks linked on the last slides of the presentation from last class as a reminder of what a book talk includes. Quickly discuss what they did well, what they could have done better with. Have students complete the book talk organizer linked below on the book they checked out last library. Once they have the outline of what they would like to say students can record their book talk. To do this, students will use the ChatterKid app on the iPad to make it look like the book is doing the talking. To do this, students will need to take a picture of the cover of the book, then draw a 'mouth' on the book and record themselves. When students are done they can share out with each other.
Lesson 3: Our Online Digital Footprint
Follow the lesson plan linked below along with the attached slides to discuss how we leave a digital footprint and the responsibilities we have to ourselves and others. If you would like, use the video linked below as well to introduce/reinforce the concept. After class discussions students could play Mindful Mountain to reinforce being responsible with the information they share. Additionally, students could use Pic Collage app or canva to create a collage of what they feel represents their digital footprint and share out.
Lesson4 : Be a Super Digital Citizen
Use the modified Commonsense Media slides linked to the right to discuss what it means to be a Safe, Responsible, and Ethical Digital Citizen. The end product will use ChatterKid app again to show learning. Students can use the information they learned from last week's lesson as well as this weeks. More details can be found in the note section of the slides.
