Lesson 1: Intro to World Book Kids: World of Animals
Introduce students to World Book Kids: Animal Category, modeling how to get there through ClassLink. Model how to choose two animals that are similar and compare them. Fill out the worksheet as a group. Next, have students choose two animals and fill out form independently. Tell students they are doing research similar to the Who Would Win books! You can book talk these if you have them in your library or even show the trailer to the right. Save completed worksheets for next library class.
Lesson 2: Intro to iPads
This lesson will prep students for using the iPads this month. Go briefly through the slideshow with students and model how to take the iPad out of the cabinet and how we use iPads in our library. After everyone has an iPad, have students open the Google app. Have students look up the two animals that they researched last session. They can either take a screenshot or push and hold on the image. They will need to save an image of each animal onto the camera roll. Explain to the students that they can use a basic keyword search using the Google search bar. As they type in the animal's name, Google will suggest keywords using the letters as the word is typed in. Therefore, they may not have to type in the whole work. They can simply click on the animal name when it appears in the keyword suggestions.
Lesson 3: Introduce students to Pic Collage
Students will choose a two picture grid and upload their pictures. Students will choose which facts to add to each picture using the text features.
Lesson 4: Student Presentations
Options:
Students present their collages to the class on the P-board using a document camera or adapter cord if you have one.
You can also take individual projects off the iPads using Google Drive and project them that way.
Students display their projects and then walk around the room and look at each others iPad projects, museum style.
