Lesson 1: Intro to Draw and Tell App and Community Jobs Project
Read Whose Hands are These by Miranda Paul to students. Have them guess the jobs as you read. Explain that over the next couple weeks we are going to look for information (research) about community jobs. Then we are going to show what we know with a digital project using this app. Show students the app Draw and Tell. Explain we will be using this app to create a project in a few weeks. Go through the features. Show them how to select a piece of paper- got through pictures and resizing, drawing with patterns, erasing and the undo arrow, paint brush, pencil, and crayon. Lastly, show they how they can record themselves in this app. Remind students of our iPad rules and then allow them time to explore.
*App is on all the library iPads
Lesson 2: Research on Pebble Go- What do you want to know?
Using Pebble Go- model how to go look through Pebble Go-Social Studies- Jobs in the Community and formulate a question about a job you want to know more about. For example-plumbers- what do they do? What tools do they use? Listen to article to find out the answer to your question. Model how to record your research using the notetaking sheet. Students then can pick a job they would like to learn more about and have questions on. Have students then record a few things they learned on the notetaking sheet to use in their digital project next week.
Lesson 3: Create Draw and Tell of What Students Learned
Explain to students that they are going to take their notes from last week and create a picture and recording showing people what they learned. They also can record themselves reading their notes of what they learned. Model you creating your project with your notes first. Remind students they need to move to a quieter area when recording.
Lesson 4: Wrap up Digital Project and Share
If students need time to finish their project, allow them time to finish. When students are done hit the back arrow and you can save it to your photos on your ipad using the folder in the top right hand corner. You then can upload these to Google Drive if you like. Having a generic gmail on all your ipads is the easiest way to manage workflow.
Students who finish early can have free time to create on the app. If you have time you can share everyone's projects as well. Students love seeing their projects.
