Lesson 2: How to Read a Book and Take Care of It
Read Going on a Book Hunt by Pat Miller. Discuss how we turn pages carefully, how we look at the pictures and make up a story, and how we take care of our library books. Watch the Sesame Street Taking Care of Books video and discuss. Place various books on tables to have the students go on their own book hunt. Students will be given a specific picture to 'hunt' for. Once they find their book that matches their picture, they can practice how to read a book with it. Students can then color their pictures. Modification: Instead of giving students a specific picture to hunt for you could give them the entire sheet, circling the image(s) they find in the books on the table.
