Lesson 1: Identify a Problem- What Pet Should I Get?
Read What Pet Should I Get? by Dr. Seuss or What Pet to Get? by Emma Dodd. Ask students what they think the stories problem is? (they should respond with they are having a hard time picking out a pet). Explain that we are going to help them with their problem. How can we help them pick out their pet? Have students brainstorm, but lead them to the idea that we can help them by researching different pets. Explain they will be picking a pet from Pebble Go that they are going to research and make a poster (Google Slide) to teach others about each pet. Show students their choices in Pebble Go. Students should pick out the pet they would like to research. (it is helpful to record that on the Pet Research Form for each student so they know how to spell the pet when they go to Pebble Go next week.)
If time allows- students can watch/sing/dance to the Which Pet Should I Get Song (below).
Lesson 2: Researching a Problem
Introduce Pebble Go and walk them on how to get on. Review how to type in their pet's name in the keyword search box on Pebble Go. Model how to fill out the pet research form. Have them start working on filling out pet research. Pet Research Form
Lesson 3-4: Continue Pet Research and Creating with a Digital Tool
Students should finish up their pet research. When they are done, students can make a Pic Collage trying to persuade their audience of the best pet to get. Students will need to be taught how to get pictures from the internet to use in their Pic Collage. It is helpful to show them this FIRST and have them hold and save their pics to the camera roll. THEN show them Pic Collage and how to create their poster.
Tip: To get work off the iPads. Save poster to camera roll. Create ONE generic gmail to set up for all your ipads if you have not. Set up your drive with that. Then you can upload everything to that generic email drive and access their work. You only need to set these up on your iPads once and then it is set forever. You can use your drive with ease after that.
