Illness

Notify a school administrator as soon as possible when taking leave due to illness.

In all other cases, teachers should:

• Notify a school administrator as soon as possible, but no later than 0600 hours.
• Leave sufficient instructions to enable a substitute to carry on with a minimum loss of education to students.
• If a teacher becomes so ill during the day that he/she must leave school, a school administrator must be notified as soon as possible.
• The minimum time a substitute can work is one-half day.
• All absences are to be arranged with school administration.

EDUCATOR’S LEAVE provides Public Law educators paid leave (10 days per annum, accruable) for an absence pertaining to the health of the employee and/or his/her family. Educator’s leave for reasons other than illness or emergencies must be requested in advance of the absence (Article 19, Section 2). Three days of this leave may be used during the school year for any purpose. “Any Purpose Leave” (APL) is not authorized during the first or last week of the school year. APL may be dependent on the availability of substitute coverage.
